What is the MSI?
The Math & Science Institute (MSI) is an academically rigorous program designed for students with a keen interest in pursuing degrees in math, physics, engineering, or the biotechnical and environmental sciences. The Institute consists of three separate college-credit tracks:
-- BioTechnology / Statistics
-- Environment and Energy Technology / Trigonometry
-- Physics / Trigonometry

The strength of the Institute not only lies with its outstanding faculty, but also with the value-added activities. The goal of the Institute is to establish a year-round program for gifted math, science and biotechnology students. Plans include establishing Fall and Spring term programs which will complement the Summer Institute.

Who should apply for the Math & Science Institute?
The Math & Science Summer Institute is designed for honors-level high school and college students. The courses offered are fast paced college-level honors credit classes. Please read the FAQ's on the left for expectations and requirements.

Who will be teaching at the Math & Science Institute?
Faculty for the institute are among the best, brightest and most innovative PBCC has to offer. The faculty provide an interdisciplinary approach to their teaching to ensure the curriculum is both relevant and rigorous. They collaborate to offer joint honors projects, speakers and field trips that help bring the disciplines together.

What makes the Math & Science Institute special?
Our new, state-of-the-art BioScience Technology Complex at PBCC in Palm Beach Gardens will be your learning laboratory. Institute classes and programs run eight weeks, meeting Monday through Thursday for four to five hours a day. Successfully complete the courses, and you will earn PBCC Honors College credit! Students will experience an exhiliarating learning community with an interdisciplinary approach between the classes in each track.
The program offers "extras" or value-added components that include but are not limited to:

  1. Honors projects
  2. Small class sizes (15 to 1 student/teacher ratio)
  3. Career planning workshops and a math and science career expo
  4. Special seminar on library research skills
  5. Field trips and speakers
  6. Tours of high-profile companies and a close look at experiments conducted by industry researchers.
