The courses listed below are designed to meet the learning, professional and development needs of the local Paralegal community; and have been approved to fulfill the new Registered Paralegal Continuing Education requirement. PROGRAM COURSE OFFERINGS:
LEO 0107 - Law, Language and Literature The study of law requires a command of practical and philosophical elements. This interdisciplinary approach to legal studies focuses on the role law plays in literature and language. Strictly academic, this course provides insight into the significant relationships among these three disciplines. Course materials include novels and short stories by Faulkner, Kafka, Dickens, Angelou, and other contemporary and classic authors. (10 hours)
LEO 0108 - Family Law Matters This course provides a broad overview of every aspect of family law, including dependency and termination of parental rights proceedings, divorce, child custody and support, wills and estates, prenuptial agreements, adoption, and other basic family law issues. Focuses on substantive and procedural issues, thereby providing students with the essentials required to thrive in any firm that practices in this area. (15 hours)
LEO 0110 - Florida Estate Planning and Probate Practice for Paralegals This course provides a broad overview of the Paralegal’s duties and responsibilities within the law office. (6 hours)
LEO 0111 - Legal Assisting Fundamentals This course provides a broad overview of the Paralegal’s duties and responsibilities within the law office. (6 hours)
LEO 0112 - Ethics for the Paralegal New! This course is designed to satisfy the newly mandated requirement of 5 hours of ethics education for registered paralegals, but is also essential knowledge for anyone associated with the delivery of legal services. Topics will include a historical perspective of legal assistants and their role in the law, established standards of ethics in the law, and the application of ethics within the legal workplace. (6 hours)

LEO 0113 - Overview of the American Legal System This course presents an overview of the American Legal System divided into four sessions: (1) Origin and types of law; (2) Branches of government, their duties, powers and restrictions; (3) Procedures, civil and criminal, and participants including ethics and paralegals; and (4) Substantive law—torts, negligence, contracts, estate planning, real property, and family law. (12 hours)
