The Sign Language Program introduces participants to the American Sign Language hearing impaired culture and the history of the profession and the field of interpreting, including K-12 educational interpreting and state and national interpreting testing systems. Interpreters serve as the communication link for individuals in classrooms, offices and various other settings. Participants interested in signing up for Sign Language II and Sign Language III must attend a Mandatory Sign Language Screening Session. For many local agencies, the demand for interpreters has not been met in recent years. Palm Beach Community College is pleased to offer American Sign Language and interpreting classes. Through this effort, we hope to meet the needs of our community. Students may complete this program in approximately two years. Students can take no more than one sign language class at a time. Students progress from one level to another based on their demonstrated abilities at the "Screening Session" held at the beginning of each semester.
