
Academic Affairs and the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). Two major departments fall under the direction of the VPAA office: Curriculum, Planning, and Research (aka: Academic Services), and Distance Learning. Link to: Academic Affairs Institutional Planning The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) forms a vital part of Palm Beach Community College's accountability and planning efforts at the District-wide level. Serving under Academic Affairs, IE acts as PBCC's institutional research and strategic planning office. The Office's responsibilities reach across many areas of the College. Link to: Institutional Effectiveness Office Assessment of Student Capability Students who are considering a distance learning course need to determine if the skills are present to be successful. Four (4) quizzes are available on this link as well as a listing of student competencies and computer system requirements. DL Assessments Student Evaluations of Faculty and Students Student Assessment of Courses and Faculty evaluations are conducted during the fall and spring terms. Near the end of the term, students are given the opportunity to assess their instructors on a variety of assessment items. The evaluation is an online assessment tool that is updated each fall and spring term and the link is distributed to all distance learning faculty. Student performance in distance learning courses is compared to student performance in the same course offered on-campus through evaluation of grade distributions and other information. Personnel The College has designated qualified personnel for the purpose of administration of the Distance Learning program. Quality of Distance Learning The office of Vice President of Academic Affairs in coordination with the Academic Deans are responsible for the quality of the Distance Learning program. Marketing and Recruitment College Relations and Marketing (CRM) communicates the College's vital role in meeting the educational needs of Palm Beach County. Distance Learning options are further publicized in the PBCC printed class schedule, multiple web sites (internal and external sites), community recruitment activities, as well as working with the advisors/ counselors in the K-12 areas schools. Facilities/ Equipment The College provides labs, facilities and equipment necessary for program/ course requirements and train/ support current and potential Distance Learning faculty and staff. Funding Designated funds for the operation of the Distance Learning program are administered through the College budget.
