The basic and primary charge of the Media Technology Department is the support and improvement of instruction, research and learning at the college. The department encompasses various traditional instructional media production, design, broadcasting, distribution and engineering activities, including non-traditional services such as distance education, video teleconferencing, Web site development and design, asynchronous on-line course development and digital compression.
MTIS gives direct support to faculty with the technical and production aspects of their classroom and distance/on-line instruction, research, educational publications, presentation of papers, seminars, conferences and general documentation; students with their course presentations, reports and research; and staff with audiovisual presentations, public service announcements, interactive video conferencing, recruitment and in-house employee training.
The department also serves as a resource to promote and demonstrate the effective use of innovative and leading-edge educational technologies for use in instruction, research and service, in addition to offering training and workshops to empower faculty in the instructional design and development of multimedia and asynchronous course materials.
